Sometimes referred to as “sport climbing,” lead climbing is another form of roped climbing that is possible on most of our walls. When lead climbing, a rope does not hang from the top of the wall. Instead, the rope starts at the base and the climber clips it into protection points as they climb. Since lead climbing is a potential next step for an experienced top rope climber, Intro to Lead Climbing is designed for climbers who feel ready to take their rope climbing skills to the next level. Over the course of two 3-hour classes, an experienced instructor will guide you through the fundamentals of lead climbing and belaying in a safe and supportive environment.
Recognize essential safety fundamentals of lead climbing and the associated risks.
